WOAH! That was THAT Chick? – Emily Perkins

You know her as the blossoming braided sweatheart, Beverly Marsh, but guess what else she’s been doing??

To be perfectly honest, she’s changed so much since IT that I didn’t recognize her in any of the rolls that are listed on her filmography when I watched the movies.  Once I knew it was her, though, I wasn’t at all surprised.

In 2006, she stole the show (for me anyway) in She’s The Man, also starring Channing Tatum and Amanda Bynes, a modern take on Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night.  Her geektastic lines and overt love of cheese leave the impression of slightly creepy virgin loner geek who watches WAY too much porn.  Wait, is there such a thing??  Don’t worry though, she gets her guy in the end.

Then, in 2007, she surprised me yet again by taking the small but incredibly memorable role of the Punk Receptionist in Juno.  I laughed so hard at her one line that I nearly choked and I’ll definitely never look at pie the same way again.

Most recently, she’s been on a few episodes of Supernatural, a show I’m sad to say, I don’t watch, so I cannot comment.  At least she’s keeping busy.

Movie News: Stephen King’s “Survivor Type” Being Adapted as a Short Film

“Survivor Type” was originally released in the 1982 horror anthology “Terrors,” but was re-released in King’s 1985 short story collection “Skeleton Crew.”  The story follows the diary of surgeon Richard Pine, a.k.a. Richard Penzetti, that has fallen from grace. Dr. Pine becomes marooned on an island in the Pacific while trying to smuggle a bunch of heroin into the U.S. from Thailand… is anyone else thinking about Damon Lindeloff or Eddie Dean? Just me?

The story is written from the perspective of this survivor’s diary. I really enjoy this writing style which also makes me think of the end of “Carrie” and the “Jerusalem’s Lot” short story (the precursor to “Salem’s Lot”) from “Night Shift.” The diary acts as a chronicle of a man’s descent into insanity as he begins to cannibalize himself to stay alive, using the heroin he was smuggling as an anesthesia for his self mutilations.

As I said, there is currently a short film adaptation in the works, and you can see the trailer for it at the top of this article. The production team is using IndieGoGo to try to raise funds for this project, so please contribute to this project, if you can. They are only trying to raise $1500.00, and they are already over half way there!

WOAH! That Was THAT Dude? – Wil Wheaton

Trailer for Wil Wheaton’s web show, “Table Top,” on the “Geek and Sundry” Network

I thought it might be fun to do some posts that are kind of similar to the “Where are they now?” posts that I’ve been doing here, but with a little different spin. This is going to be a series of posts that came from my watching Stephen King Movies and going “I wonder who these people are?” and then looking them up on IMDb. This is the first of those posts, and I wanted to discuss Wil Wheaton and why you may know him.

As you should know by now, I am a turbo-nerd. I am also a huge fan of nerd culture celebrities, mostly due to the fact that nerd culture celebs are generally smart and articulate… in other words, they mock the Kardashians rather than kissing their asses. I am a huge fan of Wil Wheaton.  I, unfortunately, have not had the pleasure of meeting him in person, but he seems like a genuinely nice person. As a member of nerd culture, I like having great people representing us, people that are very approachable and friendly. People like Wil Wheaton, Chris Hardwick and Felicia Day are wonderful examples of this.

Where Are They Now? – Doug Hutchison

This is one hell of a “Where Are They Now!” Mainly because I didn’t realize that this was “That Guy” until the other day. Since the fact eluded me for quite a while, it may have eluded you as well. This may not be news to you, however, but that’s OK. I did some serious digging around and managed to come up with some pretty good stuff on this, even if I do look like a dirty perv for it.

You are probably familiar with Doug Hutchison as the wretched piece of garbage that was Percy Wetmore from “The Green Mile.” There’s a short clip from the movie above, if you need reminding. He was also a security tech in “Lawnmower Man,” another Stephen King movie in ’92. The most notable things in his career since “The Green Mile” in ’99 are as follows:
